Br. Seraphim Reveals All

With my ordination to the priesthood a week away, this week's episode focuses on my vocational journey. Listen as I relate how I came to discern my call and how I came to experience the continual protection of the Lord.

This episode also has a song by Don't Harass Betty - "Your Love is Everything" via Podsafe Music.

Promoted podcasts are the Catholic Mormon Podcast and the Bible In A Year Podcast.

I want to thank all the support I have been getting. I especially want to thank Dr. David Schaefer at Franciscan University for providing an alternate server for the podcasts and the Disciples With Microphones for offering me membership in their organization.

Feel free to leave your comments either on the site or via e-mail at seraphimtor@hotmail.com also feel free to send me .mp3s with your own vocational stories, I would love to play them on the show. Podcast Tutorial

I have put together a ten minute podcast tutorial video and posted it over at Isidore's Corner. The file is a bit large as the video is full screen but it gives all the basics for downloading, subscribing and listening to podcasts. If you want to watch it, just hope over here and download the file.

Praying with Icons

This week we look more at the theology of the icon and the spirituality of the iconographer. Learn how you can integrate icons into your own prayer life. We will also be looking at St. Andrei Rublev, one of the most famous iconographers and his icon of the Holy Trinity as we take another trip to the Icon Corner.

There are a couple of good sources available for those interested in icons and iconography. Jim Forest's book "Praying with Icons" and Maria Giovanna Muzj's "Transfiguration" each offers some good advice on adding icons to your spiritual life.

On the Internet, you can find a good basic articles on icons and St. Andrei Rublev on Wikipedia. There is a good list of icon sites on the web at Icons and Iconography.

Our musical interlude is a Russian hymn - "O Gladsome Light" sung by the Monks and Metropolitan Choirs of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra from the CD Russian Orthodox Chants available from magnatune.com.

Again, thanks to all my listeners and those who have voted for the podcast on Podcast Alley. If you haven't voted and you like the podcast, just click on the "Podcast Alley" button in the links section of the website.

Vocations and Discernment

Click on the button to download the latest episode - or subscribe via iTunes, iPodder, Odeo, Yahoo! or your favorite podcast aggregator!

Vocations and Discernment

We've got another great show coming your way with an interview with Father Richard Davis TOR. Father Richard served as vocation director for the TORs of the Province of the Most Sacred Heart for eight years and now supervises the TOR affiliate program. He speaks on the state of vocations in the US, vocational discernment and what one might expect in following a vocation to the religious life and says lots of nice things about yours truly. [It always helps to interview one's vocation director!]

We also have Anne Davis's Awakening from Podsafe Music and some of my own advice for those seeking to discern a vocation to the religious life and/or priesthood.

For further information on discerning a vocation, I would suggest taking a look at the book by Fr. Michael Scanlan, TOR and James D. Manney - What Does God Want?

Some good websites to check out are:

VISION - Offers advice and information about religious vocations and links to various religious communities.

Vocations Online - Run by the Diocese of Joliet, offers information on religious and diocesan vocations.

Franciscans Friars, TOR - the official site of the Third Order Province of the Most Sacred Heart

If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them or e-mail me at seraphimtor@hotmail.com.

Again, thanks to all those who have subscribed or downloaded the podcast - the audience continues to increase and all thanks to God. Vote for me on Podcast Alley and help get the word out!

Icons and the Mother of God

This month is the aniversary of the II Council of Nicea in 787. In this episode of Catholic: Under The Hood, I look back at that council, at some shocking parts of Church history, and why the council's decisions remain important for us today.

I also open a new segment of the show called "In The Icon Corner", looking at the famous icon of Our Lady of Vladimir. Plus there's a great song by Kevin Reeves called "Shine" which is available from the Podsafe Music Network.

You can find further information about the II Council of Nicea in the Catholic Encyclopedia and can find the documents of II Nicea in the Medieval Sourcebook.

If you are interested in getting a copy of the icon of Our Lady of Vladimir for your own private prayer. You can purchase one from the Saint Isaac of Syria Skete.

Feel free to leave comments about the episode or you can e-mail me with comments to seraphimtor@hotmail.com

You can listen to the podcast either by clicking the button below or by subscribing to the podcast via iPodder, iPodderX, iTunes or your own podcast aggregator.
